Regarding the issue of adolescent pregnancy, I love Celebration church’s response to this issue in our community. Firstly, there is the option to have a free scan done when you are pregnant. Research shows that a mom is less likely to abort a baby once she has heard the heartbeat and seen the baby on the scan. However, there is also counselling available for pregnant moms or moms who have chosen abortion and need counselling thereafter.

Secondly, there is a life group at the church specifically aimed at supporting single moms. In this way, pregnant adolescents can know that once they have the baby, they are not all on their own, but will have a support group around them. All these ways build effective bridges to assist these pregnant young moms and offer support.

A faith community can respond to lack of school funding by building bridges through practical support and partnership.

The church can collect and donate school supplies like books and uniforms to support learners in need. It can also offer after-school tutoring and homework help using volunteers to improve learner performance. In addition, the church can work with schools and local leaders to raise awareness and seek solutions together. The church also supports learners through prayer, counselling, and values teaching, helping them stay hopeful and focused.

In this way, the church shows its missional calling by meeting needs, supporting education and strengthening the community.

Biblical Justice – Poverty in the Community

One of the biggest challenges in many communities today is poverty. Many families struggle with unemployment, food insecurity, poor housing, and limited opportunities. Poverty affects children, older people, single parents and even young people who want a better future. As the church, we cannot ignore these struggles because biblical justice teaches us to care for the vulnerable and treat people with dignity and compassion.

The Bible shows that God cares deeply for the poor, widows, orphans and people who are suffering. Psalm 146:7 says that God “upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.” James 1:27 also teaches that true religion is to care for orphans and widows in their distress. This means the church should not only preach the gospel but should also help meet practical needs in the community.

A faith community can respond to poverty by building bridges through compassion, support and relationships. One way is by starting feeding schemes and food parcel distributions for struggling families. Churches can also collect clothes and blankets during winter to help vulnerable people. These acts of kindness help people feel loved and supported, rather than rejected or forgotten.

The church can also help people become independent by offering skills training, job-preparation workshops, and mentorship programmes for young people. Instead of only giving temporary help, the church can empower people to improve their lives. Churches can partner with local businesses and organisations to create employment opportunities and foster community development.

At the same time, the church should continue to share the gospel and encourage spiritual growth. Prayer meetings, counselling, Bible studies, and discipleship programmes can help restore hope to people who feel discouraged by poverty. Many people not only struggle financially but also emotionally and spiritually. The love of Christ can bring healing and encouragement during difficult times.

An example of this type of ministry is community outreach programmes that support vulnerable people, including older adults and those living with disabilities. This kind of work helps build trust and unity within the community while also showing the compassion of Christ through practical action.

Building bridges in the community means serving people with humility, love and respect. When the church actively helps those in need, communities begin to see the gospel not only in words but also in actions. Biblical justice is not about judging or condemning people, but about restoring dignity, bringing hope and showing the love of God to everyone.
